A Halifax Original Since 1987
Grafton Street Dinner Theatre opened its doors in October 1987 with Class of ’61, a rock-and-roll high school reunion that introduced Halifax to a completely different kind of night at the theatre.
The theatre’s earliest productions were directed by Canadian writer, director and performer Briane Nasimok. Those first shows helped establish the interactive format that would become a Grafton Street signature: original musical comedies performed throughout the room, with the audience immersed in the story.
Here, the stage is the entire room. Our performers welcome you in character, serve your table, sing, play instruments and bring the story to life all around you. Original scripts provide the setting, live music drives the evening, and improvisational comedy makes every performance a little different. You never know when your table(or someone sitting at it) might become part of the show.
Over the years, our locally written productions have transported audiences to wartime Halifax in HMCS Feast Ashore, celebrated Canada’s hockey heritage in He Shoots, She Scores, welcomed Elvis fans to Heartbreak Hotel and turned fairy tales into a disco-fuelled mystery in Once Upon a Crime. From country roadhouses and Christmas comedies to murder mysteries and nights filled with classic rock, every production has brought its own characters, soundtrack and surprises.
Nearly four decades later, that original spirit is still at the heart of every performance. Located in downtown Halifax, just down the road from Neptune Theatre, Grafton Street Dinner Theatre continues to bring together original comedy, live music, local talent and a full evening of dining and entertainment.
It isn’t simply dinner followed by a show. At Grafton Street, dinner is part of the show... and so are you.
